The underground coal mines operated by Tata Steel Ltd are located at a distance of 2-3 kms from the Damodar River. Other coal mines of BCCL, SAIL are also in close proximity to the river basin. Hence, there is a cumulative impact on the river due to the mining activity carried out in the Jharia coalfield.
